DAY 9 APRIL 4 TAURANGA PORT CLOSED

The captain told us earlier that there were problems at Napier port so we would be going straight to Tauranga and missing Cook Strait.  He showed us news on his computer of three deaths and 8000 people evacuated in Fiji, which you probably read about.  Tauranga port was closed so we had to anchor in the Gulf overnight.
We liked spending time at the bow of the ship checking out the spare anchor (6 tonnes) and standing up on the front rail.
