DAY 161 SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 2 REST DAY

PRETTY LIGHT IN OUR HOTEL LOBBY

Free day on our tour program today after yesterday's big sightseeing and learning effort.  We walked around the city in cold, windy weather.  Black clouds but no rain on us.  We looked in vain for a map of Russia in English then walked the length of the only carless street.

There were many interesting statues along the way.

Natasha said more young people in this town could name this statue than could name the President.
There was an open air market selling coins, jewellery and paintings, but we did not buy anything.  We passed several old wooden houses on the way back.

We need to get up at 2am tomorrow to catch our next train to Irkutsk - THE RUSSIA - pride of the Trans-Siberian trains.
