DAY 194 FRIDAY OCTOBER 5 FESTIVALS

Korea is a country of continuous festivals. We walked along the shopping street and saw many stalls being set up, as well as a stage with temporary chairs for an audience.  An Information Officer and his wife approached us to help and we asked what was being celebrated. He told us about the International Film Festival and we saw some cinemas nearby that were involved.  The main action was over the other side of town at Haeundae Beach.

This street has several interactive statues.  One invites you to sit in his cabin.
Another man invites with a sign that says "let's shake hands".

Lyn sat next to a man who gave her the old rabbit ears antenna trick.
Malcolm accepted a "hug me" offer.
There were three little boys floating a paper boat.
And playing trumpets.

Our "guide" insisted on putting us in the picture.
This one was real.
Lyn wrote a message about "sharing" on the tree of hope.
There was a little angel looking down on us.
Scattered around were cute little animals.  You can name them.

We came back to the hotel and on checking emails we learned that Evelyn has been at our house while a bushfire burns in Bouddi N.P. at Pretty Beach.  Thanks Evelyn for looking after our house.  She turned on the sprinkler system that sprays the roof, but fortunately the wind cooled and the fire subsided.
We went back to the Lotte Department Store to video the fountain and have another cheap dinner at the Samurai restaurant.
Nearby was a food stall with a very surprising product.
They offered chicken and chips or prawns and chips.  No fish and chips anywhere here. They prefer their fish uncooked.
We walked back to the festival area at 5pm and found a jazz group playing in the street.  Further along on the stage we  watched a brass combo,  a trio of girls dancing and drumming and a quartet of girls playing Korean harps.

Everyone around here has been very friendly and the atmosphere at the festival is very positive and happy.  Those who can speak English go out of their way to converse with us.  We do stand out. We saw very few Western faces today.  It has made the move to the Busan Hotel worthwhile.  This is the view from our window.  The nearby motel looks as if it was designed by Disney.

One footnote for today. How does this young man called PSY come to be the "most famous person in the world" according to someone on our TV?
