DAY 53 THURSDAY MAY 17 HYDE PARK

Another lovely day without rain - 16C max.  Caught a bus to Holborn and walked for two hours to Hyde Park which is such a contrast to the busy streets of London.  Admired the Diana Fountain.  Spent two hours in the Natural History Museum (not surprising?).  Saw some of the items brought back by Cook and Banks from Australia and some paintings by First Fleeters, including a copy of the Waratah painting we have in our bedroom at home.  Thousands of schoolchildren visit here each day, many from Europe. We looked through a big Bird Book in the shop but could not find the ones that roosted on the Manet.  We caught the underground from South Kensington to Whitechapel then followed the signs down (?) the stairs to the overground and got straight onto a train to Brockley. We did not ask anyone for assistance this time, so are getting to know how to work the trains.  We always have troubles with the oyster cards and ticket machines.  Cod and chips from Brockley Rock eaten in Rachel,s kitchen.  She has nursed us along all the way and made our visit to London so much more enjoyable.
