DAY 70 SUNDAY JUNE 3 SAILING DOWNHILL

SWANS ATTACKED THE RUDDER
After a comfortable night's sleep on the dining table (converted to a bed) we woke to find it was raining and 6 degrees.  John turned the boat around in the shallow water with the help of the down current and we headed back to base.  We were now fairly expert at handling the locks, but the rain and cold and mud made it fairly different and uncomfortable. Once again we shared the locks with another boat which speeded things up for both as we had more hands to do the pushing and pulling.  We had sandwiches on board for lunch then stopped at Gargrave for a lovely afternoon tea.  We all had to duck to get through the front door.  The owners were very friendly and we warmed ourselves up before heading downstream again, mooring about 1.5 km from Skipton.  More of the Marks and Spencer special meal deals for dinner.  We had a briquette fire place on board but only succeeded  in burning paper in it.  The gas heater kept us warm.
